Among the many health problems facing mankind, obesity and diabetes can be considered as the main problems. Very few people, however, is the underlying cause, namely, insulin resistance is not known.
Effect of insulin
Insulin is a hormone that is produced by the pancreas. Its main function is to lower blood sugar levels. To include simple carbohydrates, they are broken down to glucose, accessed through the intestines into the blood and increases the blood sugar level.
Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white flour, etc.) supply the body with quick energy as they go quickly into the blood, but have hardly a saturation value. This causes blood sugar spikes that provide for a rapid increase or decrease in blood glucose.
Insulin is released to lower the blood sugar level again. Has returned to normal blood sugar levels, so the insulin levels are reduced in the blood. Insulin also ensures that the glucose can be absorbed by the body cells.
Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder, which literally means "honey-sweet flow", because excess sugar is excreted in the urine.
There are two subgroups of diabetes, which are referred to as Type I or Type II.
