Herniation
In 80% of cases, the herniation is the lumbar region, between the 4th and 5th vertebrae or between the fifth lumbar and first sacral vertebrae. But the hernia may also affect the cervical vertebrae. It occurs most often in people 30-50 years. In addition, the risk of hernia is lower because the fibrous capsule that surrounds the intervertebral disk hardens. The hernia is formed after injury, stooping or carrying a heavy load.
When the disc compressing a nerve root, pain varies in intensity, from mild to debilitating and it is accentuated by the movement. Depending on the compression, tingling, or paralysis, are feared.
Healing is sometimes spontaneous. The cold or heat, as well as taking painkillers are sometimes enough to alleviate the pain. Otherwise, it uses anti-inflammatory and corticosteroid injections. Physical therapy or wearing a corset waist are sometimes required. Finally, surgery may be necessary.
Finally, note that the treatment of disc herniation may go through a technique called chemonucleolysis, which is to destroy the affected part of the disc by injecting through the skin, a product (an enzyme called papain).
