What is the role of diet in acne?

At a time when fruits and vegetables are in the spotlight because they promise longevity and good health, a team of researchers had the idea to study the influence of the consumption of these foods on the condition of the skin mainly affects adolescents but also young adults.

Fifty people aged 10-54 years were recruited. Half of them suffered from acne, the other was unharmed.

All filled out a questionnaire about their diet: number of meals per day, snacking between meals, types of food consumed, quantities, drink, etc..

The report is as follows: subjects with acne are the ones who eat the least fruit and vegetables (1.9 against 3.4 unit).

We note also that all subjects are well below the official recommendation advocating eating 5 fruits and vegetables per day. The average for all participants (and non-acne acne) is 2.68 per day, with five people who did not consume (or fruit or vegetables) and 13 who never ate fruit.

Returning to the comparison between people with and subjects without acne, researchers have found another difference. The acne to engage in more snacking between meals: spreads, snacks made with chocolate, cookies, candy, sodas ...
