Until now, vaccination against meningitis C was recommended for people at risk (high incidence area, contact with an infected person). Now, vaccination with a single dose is routine for all infants aged 12-24 months. It is also recommended to be vaccinated in catch-up children, adolescents and young adults up to age 24.

The objective is to achieve herd immunity against meningococcal C infections to protect infants less than one year. The choice not to vaccinate infants from 12 months based on the fact that vaccinations have been numerous during the first year and during that period, three doses of vaccine were needed.

Note that the meningococcal C vaccine conjugated Meningitec ® is repaid in January 2010.

Recall that the meningitis C are serious infectious diseases, potentially fatal (30 deaths per year) and can cause permanent physical sequelae.
